Okay .... while I found this novel's plot to be very intriguing it was also VERY slow. So, much so that I gave up reading the rest of this novel by Chapter 11.

I do recommend it to those who are big fans of Ms. Miller.

This story is in the fated mates trope and centers around a fashion-obsessed city girl, Melina, who writes for a celebrity magazine (or blog?) called Celeb Crush. Melina turns out to be the fated mate (Luminary) of Hayden Dean, a womanizing playboy who is heir to the Alpha position of the San Francisco Wolf Pack. In this series, the general public does not know about the existence of werewolves, so they are in the closet so to speak.

I never got a connection with these characters. To me, Melina and Hayden both came off as shallow and one-dimensional. I was craving some depth to their personalities or back story that would have triggered some kind of emotional connection for me. As it was, I really found myself not caring about their story one way or the other.

The pacing was somewhat slow but started picking up around 70%, and I was getting interested. Unfortunately I was back to "meh" again by 87%. The drama, both in the pack, and in the romance, resolved uber-quickly and easily. I wanted more detail. more feelings, more action. So this one was just okay for me.

Melina Rosenthal loves all things fashion and Hayden Dean could be the posterboy for fashion and a lot more if he cleaned up his image. And that is exactly what Melina is hired to do. In spite of "almost" hating Hayden after being ditched by him on their first date, Melina is focused on the bigger picture, her dream job, if she succeeds on this project. She is clueless that Hayden stood her up for her own safety, because he recognized what she really was to him and being seen with him in public made her an easy target for his enemies.

But what neither of them knows is that this project is a set up, that they are caught in the middle of a sinister plan, where every step they take in the positive direction is manipulated and misconstrued as the opposite. No worries though because there is a HEA. There are great references to fashion and even some fashion humor. I do feel though that the story could have been a little meatier because it feels a little superficial and "goody goody". But it is an entertaining enough read.

Set in the same world as Miller's Seattle Wolf Pack Series, The San Francisco Wolf Pack series starts off great with THE WEREWOLF WEARS PRADA.

Melina wants nothing more than to work for Eclipse and the man that stood her up a year earlier is the only way to get the job. Boy does she have her work cut out for her. You would think that she would be a huge snob with her addiction to fashion, but I found her to be pretty down to earth. She is a pretty strong woman and it shines in quite a few parts of the book. Hayden is known as a rich playboy, but to finally become Alpha he needs to change his image so the pack will accept him. We learn that his playboy image is just a cover and that there is way more to Hayden than the front he puts on. There were a few points where his personality kinda repelled me, but you quickly get to know him better and want him to win Melina's heart. Melina and Hayden have a love hate relationship for most of the book. They are very drawn to each other but both push back for different reasons. When they are together they are seriously hot.

If you have enjoyed reading the Seattle Wolf pack series, you will enjoy The San Francisco Wolf Pack. If you have not read the Seattle Wolf Pack series, don't worry, you won't be lost. I'm hoping book two features Hayden's second, I really want to know more about him.
