I loved the zany illustrations (bugs on cell phones, tattooed Noah, card playing hippos, commode sitting frogs, Noah's wife's punk do, vinyl spinning buck) .. and of course, the dog who saves them all. (Think Little Dutch Boy) As with all PJ Library publications, the illustrations are as entertaining as the book. ( ) What a cute book with a quirky explanation to why dogs have wet noses. After Noah is done building his ark, he starts to gather every species of animal onto his boat. He has everything from lions, giraffes, bears, deer, insects, and last but not least a dog. This dog instantly becomes his buddy and they go on this journey together side by side. Through out the sail, Noah did not get any rest. After he fed one animal, it was time for the next. Midway through this journey, a problem arises. A leak in the boat started to flood the ark but Noah had the perfect idea. Noah had his trusty four legged friend save the day. For the remainder of the forty days and forty nights, his loyal companion plugged the hole up with his nose. He stayed there for the remainder of the trip until they reached land. Legend has it, this is why dogs always have wet noses! The setting and illustrations of this story puts the reader in Noah's position. The pictures really show the chaos that Noah was feeling. The expressions on all of the animals' faces really set the setting as well. You can see that they had fun moments but this was also a time of despair. I really enjoyed this book, I like the idea of incorporating a fictional legend about dogs into something that is factual.
