Ah, yes, another book chosen by my daughters, that I bought despite its mediocre content and reliance on television characters. My youngest girl wanted it because it had four pop-out paper masks for each of the four turtle characters. Besides this gimmick, the book describes the first adventure the turtles had against Krang, presumably a recap of the first episode of the television series. The writing is decent for the story synopsis, albeit overly filled with exaggerated sentences that make you hear the voice of a narrator for kid's toy commercials. It also includes directions for how to use the masks to interact with the text. That was an original twist, even if the mask activities always involved role-playing the scenario described on that page. The end of the book provided three more games to use with the masks, but they were contrived - kids could easily do those activities without masks, and they don't sound that fun. Basically, if you or your child is a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja series, then this book has some appeal. Otherwise there's not much to it. My girls have a new addition to their costume collection, and they enjoy paging through the book. I raised my rating a touch for the pop-out masks and the idea to use them in role playing. ( )
