Berube comments on how, traditionally, literature has wrongly depicted disability in a way that brings forth pity or horror rather than the actual experience. Of the actual experience, Berube says: “Disability is not a static condition; it is a fluid and labile fact of embodiment, and as such it has complex relations to the conditions of narrative, because it compels us to understand embodiment in relation to temporality” (570). With a character with a disability, there is a question, Berube says, of whether the disability affects their self-identity and narration throughout the story. By looking at such characters through the disabilities perspective, we can re-evaluate the way characters engage in self-analysis and temporality. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
