A young Sacagawea wanted to as brave as her brother but could not prove it since she could not hunt. When her and her grandmother went out to gather wood, her grandmother falls and breaks her ankle. Then a rattlesnake shows up Sacagawa shows she is brave by killing it to save her grandmother.
Personal Reaction:
I liked this story about a young Sacagawea and how you do not have to be a boy to be brave.
Classroom Extensions:
1. Talk about what Sacagawea did when she grew up and how anyone can be brave.
2. Have the children write a journal entry about a time when they had to be brave.
