Moses was an eyewitness to the glory of God. Despite his sometimes crippling sense of inadequacy, he was chosen to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Moses' encounters with our Lord enabled him to continue despite his personal sense of unworthiness and the many obstacles and hardships he experienced along the way. "He persevered because he saw Him who is invisible" (Hebrews 11:27). As you see God move on behalf of His people during the Exodus, you will gain a greater revelation of His matchless power and holy character. The same God who was concerned about His people's suffering in Egypt and used Moses to deliver them from their oppression, is mindful of the matters that weigh heavily upon your heart. He is concerned about your suffering (Exodus 3:7), and in His way, and in His time, He will come to your rescue as well. Through this study, you will follow Moses along his rough-and-tumble journey from his unlikely station as prince of Egypt to lonely fugitive and shepherd of his father-in-law's flock. You will watch as the stammering, reluctant follower of God grows into one of the greatest leaders who ever lived. You will witness God's active presence continually working on behalf of His people. Through Moses' story, you will learn to discern God's active presence continually working on your behalf as well. You, too, will become an eyewitness to His glory. Be prepared for real Bible study. She makes you look up the scriptures. The verses are not included in the book. I think this is a good thing as it forces you to look them up yourself and then you can use any Bible version(s) you want to use.
The format for this Bible study book is well laid out and easy to record answers to questions, work-book style. Each chapter is set up for five days of work (and not seven to allow for extra busy days in your life) and the fifth day is set up to reflect and find some application to your life from the previous four days of study. I also found the questions to be strategically placed to encourage you to discover key facts for yourself, and thereby be more likely to remember them.
Also included is relevant background information on the topic at hand and relevant personal stories at appropriate places.
Overall, most of all I felt encouraged. The entire tone was encouraging, never condemning or depressing or overwhelming.
How you use this study book seems important. To pray first seems crucial. But I would also recommend that you meditate on your own, after you read the scriptures and before you read her comments.
And, yes, I found some things out about Moses that I had never seen before.
