Deep in blackest space, the Drasin have watched humanity's journey to the stars--and determined that a species as barbaric as ours has no place in the cosmos. The wreckage of the starship Odyssey, once Earth's greatest guardian, lies strewn across New York City. Abandoned by all but its captain, Odyssey's sacrifice covered the withdrawal of countless troops as the Drasin assault ravaged the planet. When Captain Eric Weston finally emerges from the rubble, impossibly alive thanks to the mysterious "Gaia," he knows with the Drasin it's kill or be killed. But not all of the heavens have proven hostile. The Priminae have felt the full brunt of Drasin aggression on their own home world, and they won't leave humanity to face annihilation alone. Together with what's left of the crews of the Odyssey and other starships, they race to join Weston and his group of Earth-bound survivors for a desperate last stand. The final battle of the Drasin War brings bestselling author Evan Currie's Odyssey One series to its shattering conclusion.… (altro)

Actually enjoyed the first 2 then 3 started getting a bit silly but I persevered, then 4 comes along and it is just a full of predictable nationalistic crap, very suitable to an american audience.
I just gave up after about 30 pages. ( )

I enjoyed reading the book. Although I read at least two other series with the theme of inhibitors, cleaners, replicators which are tasked to wipe all life from the universe but this series has a a bit more to offer in this genre. With the small secrets that are revealed at the end of this book I really want to see this series continue on till a real conclusion.

Character development is relatively kept to the extent not to bore the readers and non action, fluffs, are almost non existence. In another word it is a true military sci-fi.

The grand majority of this book doesn't really qualify as a space opera, but the end definitely squeaks it in. What do I mean? I mean this book just put me through the hell of watching the Earth get slowly destroyed by a war it simply had no right to think it could win, despite all the stockpiled weapons and munitions, the high tech drones or kinetic slingshots or nukes, and despite even the help of a few alien friends.

The scale and scope of this conflict is immense and overwhelming, and all we could do was watch Eric and all the earthbound heroes triage, burn, and regroup as all the cities fell. I can honestly say that this is probably one of the best Earth Conflict novels I've ever read, at least when it came to straight war, war, and more war. Gannon came close, but this one beats it by timing, likeable characters, and spot-on fortune reversals.

Was the omnipresent intelligence a bit off-putting or odd? Well, yeah, a little bit, but I expect to know more about her in future books. This is NOT the end. :) Was the last-minute bacon-pulling unbelievable? Nah. As a series of books, it contains a very nice symmetry. I mean, turnabout *is* fair play, and let's be honest, things had really, really gone to shit.

Am I happy that book 5 is coming out in half a month? Hell yes.

Am I going to read [b:King of Thieves|23431348|King of Thieves (Star Rogue, #1)|Evan C. Currie|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1422375003s/23431348.jpg|42991647] with great anticipation, now that I'm a firm fanboy of the author? Yes. :)

Do I *really* *really* want to turn on my game console and play Mass Effect 3 right now, to savor the feeling and much more than the greater experience of this novel to feed off of each other, with delight? Yes. Yes I do. :) ( )

I really enjoyed the first 3 in the series but had a hard time with this one. ( )

Title: Out of the Black Series: Odyssey One Author: Evan Currie Rating: of 5 Battle Axes Genre: SFF Pages: 447 Format: Kindle Synopsis: The wrap up to the Drasin alien cycle of the Odyssey One series. Earth must stand off something like 1,000 drasin ships while fighting against drones on earth itself. The Priminae are refusing to actively engage to help earth and thus earth, finally united, faces its greatest threat ever. My Thoughts: This was a great wrap up to the series. In the previous book it seemed like earth was already gone when the survivors were sent to Priminae space. This books hows the battle that ensued between them leaving and them returning with Priminae tech. I thoroughly enjoyed this. I have always preferred ground fights to space fights and this was full of that. The whole earth is the battle ground and to leave even one drasin alive is to risk it replicating and starting the war all over. This ends on such a note that you could stop and be satisfied. Obviously, lots of questions remain about the drasin handlers and other aliens out there, but the drasin, as a threat, are done. That is a nice feeling. " ( )
