When aeronautical engineer Kendall Pearson finds an injured osprey on her property, she expects to simply drop it off at a local wild bird rehabilitation center and be done with it. Quick and painless, like every other relationship she has. But wildlife biologist Bailey Chase has other plans for Ken. First, as surgical assistant, and second, as the designer for her new raptor sanctuary. Bailey protects her privacy with the vigilance of a hawk, hiding in her rescue center where she has complete control over her life and her work. Isolated on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, she’s surrounded by natural beauty and plenty of solitude. Until sexy Ken Pearson walks in with a wounded bird and Bailey finds her life has been invaded by more than just an extra beak to feed. Sometimes pain is invisible, and only love can soar over protective barriers and heal a wounded heart.… (altro)

Kendall, Ken for short, is an architect. She is awash in contradictions. She seems to have this creative out there side when it comes to some things and yet at the same time she's totally buttoned up and bland and until the start of the novel she is designing cookie cutter houses.

Then there's Bailey. She's a wildlife biologist who seems to specialize in birds. She has a bird rescue on the same Peninsula that Ken just bought land on. Bailey is quite the loner, except for the birds she's healing of course. But, she has some changes coming because at the start of the novel she has aligned herself with WSU and will have to have interns and teach classes if she wants to keep the rescue going.

Everything for both of them changes when Ken finds a hurt Osprey on her land and brings it to Bailey. Of course, after that they keep running into each other. Ken is assigned by her new job to design an addition for the rescue. While Bailey has to deal with a new intern Dani.

I thought that the characters were well written as usual for Walsh. Dani was a very interesting character as were the two Main Characters. At the beginning I wasn't sure if I liked the characters of Ken and Bailey, but they grew on me. Ken's inner life vs. outer life was the most interesting part of the character. And Bailey, I think that a whole lotta people feel what she feels when suddenly others are going to come into her realm and start doing things that she may not be able to always be on hand to witness.

I did sorta wonder what in the world happened to Sue, and did I miss a Sue-napper in the plot or something? She had a scene at the beginning, I liked her character, and it seemed like she would be back later in the book. I wanted to know more about her, how she would fit into the rest of the story, but, we never really saw her again. That confused me.

Overall I liked the book though. A solid 3 star novel and an enjoyable read. Although, ewww to the descriptions of the owl and some of the bird feed.

I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. ( )
