Claire Tremaine, the widowed Marchioness of Derebourne, wears leather breeches, trains horses, and helps the damaged ones find their lost spirit. Her husband has just passed away, leaving her with no place to live. Chastain Warren, the Earl of Kensington, Chase to his friends, isn't pleased when he learns he's inherited the title of Marquess of Derebourne. Having recently lost his beloved wife and child, the last thing he wants is to be caretaker of Hillcrest Abbey. Nor does he want to be attracted to Derebourne's widow, but he is. This woman who wears breeches isn't anything like the ladies he's waltzed with in the ballrooms of London. This is the second book from Sandra Owens that I read, although the plot precedes her first book, ‘The Letter’ in which we already met the hero and heroine as a married couple. In this book we get to see how our heroine won her hero.

As in her first book, Ms. Owens continues to woo me with her prose, witty dialogue and wonderful characterization of major and secondary characters. Everything in this story was flawless, from the first to the last page. I really liked the slow and steady relationship these two embarked on. This was a story of two adults facing ...Thanks for skipping over to b2b to finish my review...

Free on kindle. I should read better books. Spoilers. The woman's husband dies and the Marquess inherits. I don't understand why she is where she is -- she doesn't seem to fit. She decides to gentle him like she would a horse. She is a self-taught horse expert. He decides he should find her a husband. And then there are twins who he found on the streets of London and adopted. There are too cute & perfect for words. And then there is a stupid woman who wants to catch the Marquess for her daughter. It is pretty silly.

When Lady Claire's husband dies and the distant heir comes to claim his inheritance, Lady Claire is not sure what will become of here. She has spent the past few years building up the stables and wants to continue working with her horses. Chase is wary of any romantic connection after the death of his wife and unborn child, but finds himself drawn to Claire. Claire decides to use the skills she developed working with skittish horses to help Chase learn to trust in love again. This was a sweet book and a quick read that was quite fun. ( )
