I read this two years ago and must have been reading another book at the same time, because few if any of the plot points I remembered were there. I did remember several in here, though. It's a great premise, but for whatever reason, was so boring. I kept turning pages, waiting for it to be interesting. It should have been. Action, gory science, strong women...but it didn't meld for me . It doesn't seem clear at first that this is the second book in a series. Those transitions can be tricky. I give the story a pass on this. I was pleasantly surprised when it was over. Bit of an abrupt ending, but was done in such a way that it was clear the author was writing a third book. Ahahaha, I knew writing reviews for books I read months ago would be painful... Wow, the horror of revisiting this book again. This is a book that I remember having high expectations for, not because the first book was good (I mean, it was okay, not my favorite) but simply because the start of this book was so promising. But then of course, we had to go and add the love triangle. We had to add the love triangle Don't get me wrong, I love a good love triangle. I don't seek them out, but if it's written well, I enjoy reading it. Not this. This was just beyond what words can say. This was just so bad. I'm not going to go into details, but let's just say there's some really toxic relationships in here. And the main character is annoying? Recipe for a bad book: 1 girl protagonist who is "strong" and doesn't need a man, but literally is the weakest person ever and depends on the love and attention from the.... 2 boys. One dark and broody (dangerous, but oh so alluring) and one charming and charismatic. They both love the girl but hate each other, and of course the dark and brooding one gets with the girl. 1 toxic relationship. Because I too go and to the devil's tango with a boy that I barely know who has tried to kill me twice before - BUT NOT BEFORE KISSING THE DARK BAD BOY THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THEN BEING HURT BY HIM BECAUSE HE DOESN'T SAY GOOD MORNING FOR BREAKFAST 1 promising premise, ruined by the latter ingredients... It wasn't a good book. Whoops. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Well I enjoyed this one a lot more than [b:The Madman’s Daughter|12291438|The Madman’s Daughter (The Madman’s Daughter, #1)|Megan Shepherd|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1354155885l/12291438._SY75_.jpg|17268041].
I think the character development was much better in this sequel and the plot more focused. This is a reimagining of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, with Juliet Moreau trying to get to the bottom of the gruesome murders that have befallen people she knows. As with the first book this is a YA gothic thriller and there are certainly some sinister characters prowling the streets of London. Juliet displays a lot more sense in this book and I enjoyed the feminist views being expressed in a Victorian society. An enjoyable sequel, shame about the love triangle. ( )
