Unrelenting and merciless as a leader, the hero allows himself no pleasure or happiness of his own. Instead he lives and breaths for the safety of his people. Though he's betrothed to the heroine and feels attraction for her, he's honest in the fact the he wants her for wife only because of the prophecy of her leading their people into a better age. The heroine has lead a very shelter life thanks to the prophecy and a vicious previous attack and rape has left her broken, but she's willing to fight for her people, despite what the hero wants. Though she's attracted to him sexually, she thinks of him as a cold unforgiving overlord and in part she's right. But when their world in threatened and the hero must travel into the land of the dead, she doesn't hesitate to follow him. As they travel the baron landscape as are forced to confront their demons along the way, they each see deeper into the other person then they could have ever done before. They are instantly stripped of their powers when entering what is especially hell and left as weak as humans. It's from the jump that begin to see a crack in the heroes armor as he mourns the lost of his spirit animal. As well as when he finds his father and he speaks about all the resentment he feels for him about how he failed their clan and his mother. Even more when he looses his sight protecting the heroine and must relay entirely on the heroine to lead him. Slowly and bit by bit, the hero begins to show her his true feels and the fact he's always had them but was too proud to show them. The heroine takes to her duties as his protector with grace and dignity because despite her fears and insecurities, she was born to lead and she was born to be the heroes wife. I really loved this story because though it dealt heavily with the supernatural and Gods and Goddess and spirit animals, it also delved into real issues. The heroes resentment towards his father up until the point when he swallows his pride and calls for his help. Coming to terms with how his father did what he thought was best and his sons forgiveness allowed him to pass on. The heroine forced to stand up to her attacker and allow him no forgiveness for his actions but taking all power for him to her her again. And the heroes burden of responsibly that blinds him to love and understanding. Such a marvelous book. ( )

What I Loved
Characters
Lucia: In the beginning of the series I wasn't too impressed by her, she was a weak whiny character. By book 2 we got to learn a little more about Lucia and I started thinking ok maybe she does have a little bit of a back bone. By this final book I was way more impressed by her and happy with her personal growth and strength. She still has some moments of weakness that irritate me a little but overall much better.
Emory: We meet him all throughout the other 2 books as well. His character has also been very standoffish and only about being the stone cold hearted leader of his people. Well in this book we final get to understand why he is always so guarded and he finally loosens up a bit.
Romance
Yes lots of romance and lots of sex. But I sometimes felt it was a little too often, I kept on thinking aren't they in a hurry to save the world, but I do think it contributes to there building of trust and there success.
Fantasy
Oh I just love all the fantasy this series has to offer, dragons, shape shifters, God's, humans, magical people etc. Never a dull moment in my ruined city of Seattle.
Trilogy
I also love trilogies. Perfect amount of story to enjoy while not having to wait forever for it to be finished. However I will miss this world Kira has created along with the amazing characters. The story ended well and I'm happy with how things ended. However the epilogue was killer, I'm so hoping for a spin off series to be announced.

Didn't Like
The series has come to an end, I'm hoping for more spin off series.

Recommendation
A must read for paranormal romance lovers. ( )

Great Read! Lucia and Emory were quite the interesting pair. They are betrothed, obviously there seems to be a dislike for each other. But Emory is really (i think) clueless, he had no idea what is in store for him. Lucia is an awesome character. She's fierce and easy to love. As I've mentioned before this is a gritty Seattle, but almost at times at least for me this world has the feel of an epic fantasy. Definitely different. Heart of Chaos is an exciting read. Now this series is set up as a trilogy, but it could very well go on... either way I found the end very satisfying. ( )

When I read the synopsis for Hearts of Chaos I was very interested as I love shape-shifters and this title certainly has plenty of those.
This one for me though took me a while to get in to, and at times I had to go back and read a previous chapter to catch on to the story as I was a little confused as there was so many characters.
Once I under stood who everyone was, the story was quite good, it was full of surprises, twist and turns as Lucia and Corbette joined forces to find the sceptre and save their world from evil, and save each other as there feelings grow stronger and become impossible to ignore. The imagination of the writer was fantastic, they come face to face with life threatening situations and huge monsters that keeps the reader on the edge your seat. The conclusion to the story was very nicely done and a followup book is sure to come.
