I just couldn't do it. About ten pages into it I already hated the main female character, I found her to be very shallow. And the main male character was completely unbelievable. In addition the writing style felt juvenile, there was no depth. Still, I forced myself to keep reading, hoping that it would get better. By page 50 I threw up my hands, it didn't improve and I didn't want to waste any more time. I can only hope the book gets better as you go along for those who choose to read it, but this was not the book for me! I thought this was a fairly good book. I always love books with a fairy tale theme. Anthony and Isabella were a good couple even though she got on my nerves a little bit in the last half of the book when it came to Lady Harriett's scheming. I am looking forward to reading books 2 and 3 in this series to find out what else happened at the Kingsborough Ball. THE TROUBLE WITH BEING A DUKE: AT THE KINGSBOROUGH BALL by SOPHIE BARNES is an Regency interesting Historical Romance set in 1817 London. First in a new trilogy. Fast paced story of Isabella Chilcott, daughter of a carriage driver and Anthony Hurst, Duke of Kingsborough. A Cinderella story, except the Prince Charming is actually a Duke. Anthony, has found his Cinderella, but she escapes quietly from a Ball is family is having,so the search begins.......Isabella, crashes the Kingsborough Ball on a whim and a dare,so the story begins......Very entertaining as well as intriguing. There are a few dark secrets, that come to light, lots of passion and finding the truth of one's past. Things are not as they appear in the Chilcott house. A great read! Received for an honest review from the publisher and Edelweiss. Anthony Hurst, Duke of Kingsborough, falls in love at first sight with a mysterious lady in a yellow gown at the masquerade ball. He tracks her down fairly quickly but then runs into obstacles, an almost-fiancee by the name of Mr. Roberts and a prospective mother-in-law who hates aristocrats.
Isabella Chilcott sneaked into the masquerade ball, wearing a dress she found in the attic. She had a marvelous time despite identified as an imposter shortly afer arrival. What to do, what to do, should she stay with Mr. Boring or seek true love with the Duke? ( )
