Because the main character Riya (Emariya) started to act more reasonably. The 1st was a series of falling from one foolish act to another, till I didn't understand what Torian , found in her beside her being a beauty. And I don't know if it in synchronization to the confusion of her but many times i lost the sequence of the plot, and the explanation seemed to me very feeble. And the journey was, at times, a bit slow-moving for me.
But in the 2nd book Kelly seems more in focus and you can follow the events much more easily. Also, the action is more intense and the stakes are so much higher the characters got more flesh to them and I started to develop more sympathy to their issues (especially Garith and Jessa).
In the 1st Book her brother Reeve act suspiciously but in this one he turn to be a real creep.
Over all it is nice for young YA and very safe and I'm going to start to reed the 3rd.

I still didn't understand why her father didn't use his powers as a stone to get away from his prison (
