Overrall I enjoyed reading this book. I must say that at first I was a little leary about the story. I think this story relates to many people. We always want to be the "center of attention"....especially on our birthday!
As a classroom extension we would discuss our own birthday parties. I would write on the board (ideas from the children) on party themes, gifts we like to receive and the food we want to have at our own birthday party. Then we would talk about who we would invite....like....our friends, our brother or sister and even neighbors. I would give the children a chance to share how they would feel if they were "not invited" to their brother/sister/friend's party? I would end with telling the children that we NEVER want to hurt anyone's feelings, especially our own brother or sister.
