Cute but disappointing.
Pretty much 'Fade to Black' sex scene. So that was a failure.

Hell Hounds are for Suckers by Jessica McBrayer and narrated by Valerie Gilbert is a fun book about a goth vampire, a lost "puppy", and a demon. There are more interesting characters too! The puppy ends up being a bit more than a regular dog! He barks fire! Yep, not your normal hound. Cute story.

I'm a *sucker* for books with dogs of any kind, and this was only novella size, so it was a no-brainer for me. Superpuppy finds young vampire and falls in love. Hannah, not as much, but takes him home and falls in love more each day. But there is something different about him, besides his growth rate. Enter the demon. He claims prior ownership, and then the real fun begins!
Valerie Gilbert nails the performance with a real You Are There quality! ( )

I have two confessions to make before I review this novella
1) I grew up in San Francisco, living there until my late 30's, and it’s so much fun reading books that mention places I know so well.
2) I really don't like humor, in books, TV or movies (in fact I rarely get jokes!)....I am more of a drama, suspense, mystery person.

That said - this type of humor appeals to me, this novella was wonderful, it's fun, refreshing, love the quirky characters, the nontraditional elements, and the location of the story. Sadly it was short; at only 60 pages, it gave me a glimpse into this author’s writing style, and the characters in the series. There was not much character development due to the length of the novella, but the primary characters are returning from the author’s first book, where I'm sure the reader has a feel for them. New to this novella were our mischievous hell hound and our male lead, as well as our evil demon wannabe lover. There is a strong comradary and support amongst the friends in the book, they are open and accepting of other non-human beings, watching out for each other like any family would.

I rate this book at three stars only for its length, and know that I will be reading the other two books in the series, when I need that quick bit of something different. I really enjoyed this read. Hades is an adorable Hell Hound and is a complete ham. Getting glimpses of Hannah's friends and a bit of their story makes the reader intrigued enough to be interested in purchasing the other books in the series to find out the whole story. Aidan is so sweet and your heart breaks for him. Diel's description is very sexy and I can picture a hot demon in my mind when it's his part. I really enjoyed the Hannah/Diel interaction and relationship. My only critique is the story is too short.
