Bree and Kade Matthews wanted children but after her miscarriage she hadn't been able to get pregnant and it was weighing heavily on both their hearts. Although they had Davey, Bree's son from a previous marriage, they wanted one together. When Kade mentions adoption Bree agrees to consider it but deep down she knows it won't be the same. Being a search and rescue worker helps to keep her mind off of her troubles but she never gives up hope of having her own child. Kade's sister has been a handful since their parents died and, at twenty one, he feels it's time for her to grow up and act responsibly. When a parachuter goes down in the woods near Big Piney River, Bree joins in the search. But what appears to be a simple accident turns out to be connected to a missing persons case. Kade is surprised to find out his "irresponsible" sister has been doing her own investigating on the case. Will they solve the case in time? And will Bree and Kade get the baby they have been praying for? I must say I have fallen In love with the characters of Rock Harbor. Silent Night has a great storyline with depth and just enough suspense to keep you turning the pages at a rapid pace. It's a short read being a novella but it leaves you wanting more time with the characters of Rock Harbor. And it has not one, but THREE, animals which always enhances the story for me. I loved Bree's German shepherd / chow mix named Samson who went on search and rescue missions with her. Overall I was very pleased with this Rock Harbor novella and if you like short stories with suspense you will too. It can be read as a stand alone but I think after reading it you will want to delve deeper into the series. Colleen Coble is an author of no disappointments. The characters in Colleen’s popular Rock Harbor series are reunited for a Christmas season to remember. But first some search and rescue suspense is in order. There’s warm family times to balance the frigid air surrounding the action in this novella length book. Another good choice for fireside reading during the holidays. (I received a review copy of this book.) Bree Matthews is preparing for Christmas but her heart is heavy from her recent miscarriage. She longs to have Kades child. Bree and Kade begin fixing up a room for Kade's sister, Lauri, when she suddenly shows up two weeks earlier than expected. Bree senses something isn't right. Then a parachuter disappears in the North Woods. Bree and Samson (her search and rescue dog) go searching when some clues turn up concerning a young girl who disappeared. Bree and Kade fear Lauri knows more than she's telling. What will the search turn up and will Bree deepest prayer be answered? I knew when I saw Silent Night that it was a must-read! Rock Harbor and the wonderful folks you've come to know and love are always a joy to go visit. Though this was a short and quick read, it was wonderful to be brought up to date with what's happening in the lives of Bree and Kade and the extended family. There's a mystery, of course, and you watch Samson do his thing! I love that dog! And I must say the ending was fabulous! If you are a Rock Harbor fan than this is a story you won't want to miss. File Size: 596 KB Publisher: Thomas Nelson (November 20, 2012) ASIN: B00A29R22I Colleen Coble is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books contain realistic places, characters and story lines that are guaranteed to keep you up well past your bedtime while you promise yourself just one more chapter... "Silent Night" is one of those stories. A short novella that takes place around Christmastime, this story does not need the reader to have read the other books in the Rock Harbor series to enjoy and connect with the characters. I find it amazing that Colleen can have the reader become so involved within the span of a novella - it takes a gifted writer to accomplish that, and her gift shines with this story. Bree Matthews is a very interesting character who's job is both heartbreaking and rewarding. She is quite realistic with her attitude towards her yearning for a special gift for her husband and her reaction to what he has asked of her. She is a character that I want to get to know much deeper. Her lovable character is responsible for me adding the Rock Harbor series to my TBR list! This heartwarming and somewhat predictable novella is a must read for anyone who loves sappy yet mysterious Christmas stories. If you've never read a Colleen Coble story before, here's a great place to start!! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Bree Matthews is preparing for Christmas guests, but her heart is reeling from the recent and tender loss of her unborn child. Her sister-in-law, Lauri, suddenly turns up on the doorstep of the lighthouse home Bree shares with her husband, Kade, in Rock Harbor. Secretive and withdrawn, Lauri seems curiously intent on discovering what happened to a parachuter who disappeared in the North Woods along Lake Superior's icy shore. As Bree and Samson, her search-and-rescue dog, plunge into the search, Bree wonders if Lauri may know more than she's admitted about the parachuter. And then the clues lead them to the trail of a young woman whose family fears the worst about her disappearance. Will the search on this snowy, silent night lead Bree and Samson to more than clues about the missing girl? Readers return to Rock Harbor to reunite with Bree Matthews and her family and friends during the Christmas holiday season. While it is a festive time of year, Bree is still mourning the loss of a recent pregnancy and wonders if she and Kade will ever have a child of their own. Unexpectedly, her sister-in-law, Lauri, shows up at Bree’s front door. Bree knows something is up as there are still two weeks left of college, so why is Lauri really here? Bree doesn’t have time to question her as she is called out on a search and rescue mission to look for a missing parachutist. As the search continues, Lauri keeps asking questions about the mission sky diver, which makes Bree think Lauri knows more than she is telling about the situation. She seems to be hiding something. Clues are discovered about a missing girl. Could Lauri have information about the girl or be involved in her disappearance?
As usual with Colleen’s books, I was glued to the pages from beginning to end! While this is a short story, it has plenty in it to entertain. It is a great way to spend an evening. I enjoyed visiting with Bree and Kade again, as well as Davy and Samson. This series has given me a new appreciation for the UP in Michigan and the outdoors. For those who enjoy romantic suspense, this is a good series!
