First half of the book explains why the author thinks that there is no moral justification for government. Second half of the book explains how a society without government could function. Some of this is intriguing, some is obvious, some impractical. The second half of the book sketches how 'law and order' might work without government, and why a military might not be necessary, but there's not even the briefest attempt to explain how things like roads and water supplies would be dealt with. Some is explained clearly with good thought experiments, but much of it is repetitive and humorless. Anyway, moral or not, government isn't going anywhere within our lifetimes, or within the lifetimes of our great-grandchildren either. So I guess I'm a bit more interested in what can be done to improve government. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

The state is often ascribed a special sort of authority, one that obliges citizens to obey its commands and entitles the state to enforce those commands through threats of violence. This book argues that this notion is a moral illusion: no one has ever possessed that sort of authority. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
