An excellent introduction to this writer and this series. Some very interesting characters, good and bad. with an always interesting plot in great locales, leavened by the occasional flashbacks to WW2. Recovering art and other valuables stolen by the Nazis turns out to be quite dangerous as Eddie Grant and his impromptu team sort things out. He lives as well as Stone Barrington so look forward to dining out nicely. ( )

Great entry into a new series. It plays in Paris and Sarasota, Florida. The point is that Eddie's father, together with a friend after the WWII, sometimes hijacked Nazi-theft art, but also returned it to the public. When the friend was murdered, Eddie received a letter that was very puzzling. But Eddie realized that he was not the only one who tried to solve the puzzle. After all these years, a descendant of a Nazi wants to bring into his possession a certain lost painting and gold bullions. He is not afraid to kill for it. The story is gripping and fast-paced. I will definitely read the sequels as well. ( )

The publisher's blurb dangles the lure, but it doesn't take long before the hook is set. This fast-paced suspenseful novel veritably coerces the reader to keep flipping another page. It combines a hunt for a well-hidden treasure, revenge, greed, murder, law enforcement on two continents, old relationships, and lessons from WWII history impacting the characters in the 21st century. Well done!

Treasure of Saint-Lazare. John Pearce. 2012. I have decided to call these free or inexpensive books I download on my Kindle to read while I am exercising, Kindle Trash. They remind me of movies on the Lifetime Channel. This one was a cut above because a lot of it took place in Paris and I recognized various locations and landmarks. And because is concerns missing artwork stolen by the Nazis which is a topic I have enjoyed reading about. Action is split between Paris and Sarasota, Florida. When the daughter of a army buddy of his father shows up in Paris with a mysterious letter, Eddie Grant becomes involved in searching for a Rembrandt drawing that disappeared during WWII. Jen’s father and Eddie’s father were part of the team that tried to locate looted artwork.

Murder, arson and attempted kidnapping make this a fairly suspenseful novel and it is a good book for the beach or, as I said to read on the treadmill! ( )
