Now a young and somewhat troubled teen, a boy discovers his grandmother found him a job on a farm working for Gunnar and Olaf. She serves as the men's private cook. The boy's home life leaves much to be desired with two alcoholic parents who show no interest in him. The boy spends all his time working, has no time to study, and passes to the next grade only "because they don't want to keep him around another year." Years later the boy discovers the truth about that summer job which endears his grandmother to him all the more. ( ) Alida's Song is about a boy who has been struggling at home with his parents. He gets a letter from his Grandmother, Alida, who says she found him a job that he could do, so he could live with her. He goes to live with her and works for two farmers, Gunnar and Olaf. One Saturday he goes out with his Grandmother and Gunnar and Olaf. They were throwing a party for Alida because it would be her anniversary if her husband was still alive. They played a song for him and Alida asked the boy to dance with her. By having him dance with her she was able to make him more popular to all the other kids at the party. The boy ended up dancing with other kids for the rest of the night. A few years later the boy figured out that Olaf and Gunnar did not actually need a farmhand and did not have the money to pay him and his Grandmother had been paying Olaf and Gunnar the money to pay the boy. My opinion of the book was that it was a very good quick read. It showed that family would do anything to keep it's members safe. I thought it was a good book because it was different then the other books that people normally read. However, I would of liked to know the boy's name in the book. Instead of being an Action or Romance book, it had a different theme that made catch your attention. Also, because it was a short book, it did not matter that it was not as exciting as other books because by the time you realize that it is getting boring you are already on the last chapter. I would recommend this book to kids that need a quick read. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
