What do you get when you cross a Mac with an iPad? OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Its 200 new features include iPaddish goodies like dictation, Notification Center, and Reminders--but not a single page of instructions. Fortunately, David Pogue is back, with the expertise and humor that have made this the #1 bestselling Mac book for over 10 years straight. Big-ticket changes. Twitter and Facebook intgration. Air-Play TV mirroring. Power Nap. Game Center. Documents in the Cloud. iMessages. Gatekeeper. If Apple wrote it, this book covers it. Mountain Lion Watch. This book demystifies the hundreds of smaller enhancements, too, in all 50 programs that come with the Mac: Safari, Mail, Messages, Preview... Shortcuts. This must be the tippiest, trickiest Mac book ever written. Undocumented surprises await on every page. Power users. Security, accounts, networking, build-your own Services, file sharing with Windows--this one witty, expert guide makes it all crystal clear. There's something new on practically every page of this new edition, and David Pogue brings his celebrated wit and expertise to every one of them. Apple's brought a new cat to town, and Mac OS X Mountain Lion: The Missing Manual is the best way to tame it. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

Hmm. Perhaps the secret is to do everything on the Mac with the Option key held down :-P (It certainly seems like Pogue advises holding that key down several times a page.)
I do wish Pogue would have spent a little time clarifying which things *only* work in Mountain Lion as it is relatively new and I (like others I figure) still have Lion systems. So it's a bit frustrating having to try things and find they only work on some systems.
Cons: Amazingly, Pogue missed a few things. For example, he seems *not* to know that you can indeed enter all Unicode characters from the keyboard. (He says it's not possible.) And some of his explantions are just too brief and could use more examples (because I couldn't get them to work.) There are also a number of typos which suggests he needs a better copyeditor.
I'm only about halfway through the book so I'll probably come back and add a few things when I'm done. Feel free to comment on my comments.
Conclusion: Despite some very minor flaws, the book is well worth the price and I give Pogue kudos for creating a fantastic resource. ( )
