There are a few reasons that I liked this short chapter book. The first reason is because of the language. The language was descriptive and organized as it told the story. One of my favorite lines was when T was in the city with Mama Rex, "'A horse pulled a carriage full of people who weren't Cinderella. "Do you think that was once a pumpkin?" T asked.'" I thought that this line was comedic as it related to the tale of Cinderella, and what might be a child's first thought when they see a carriage. The next or second thing that I liked about this book were the illustrations. Even though, this was a chapter book, under each body of text there were simple illustrations which enhanced the text and overall story. The pictures were also very unique, looking similar to those of watercolor paintings. The last thing I enjoyed about this book were the characters. The main characters were Mama Rex, and T. However, throughout the story I noticed that they were the only dinosaurs or animals in the book, and that the rest of the characters were human. Even though they were the only animals, they acted very similar to the humans around them, "'But first, pajamas. No arguing." T crawled out from under the table and held his arms up. Mama Rex opened her mouth wide "What? When? How?"' You can see from this piece of text that they have a normal mother-son relationship, as Mama Rex wanted T to put on his PJ's without an argument just as many parents ask their kids too. Overall, I think that the 'big idea' of this story was that teamwork is important, and that families can work together to help each other out and succeed through stressful times. The story gives children an idea of what they might do in a time when their parents are stressed out from work, or life in general. ( )
