How far would you go to save the world? When physicist Jacob Newman is pulled from his family, his job, and his whole life to investigate a strange vessel discovered at the bottom of the South Pacific, he finds evidence of time travel, along with implications that a judgment day against mankind is imminent. But it isn't until he cracks the time travel technology and uncovers a startling link to his own family history that he undertakes a dangerous mission back to 1924 to kill Adolf Hitler and undo a horrific episode of Earth's violent past. The results are catastrophic, and soon he discovers much darker forces working against him-forces he must overcome if he hopes to save humanity and see his family again. Written in the vein of the late Michael Crichton, James Rollins, and similar authors who inject high concept plots with little-known historical facts and a touch of cutting-edge science, The Kronos Interference offers international intrigue, fast-paced action, and plenty of twists and turns.… (altro)

I was given this book through the Making Connections ARR: Science Fiction group for an honest review, thank you.

I need to first get these thoughts off my chest before I begin my review. First, OMG! Paradoxes! Second, why aren’t more people reading and reviewing this book? People are seriously missing out on a great, entertaining read. This book reminded me of the many TV shows and stories that dealt with time paradoxes, but at the same time it has a unique take on it.

I want to start my review with the cover. It’s really well done. The colors, the fonts, the placement of the words, the images, everything is well chosen and laid out.

From the moment I started reading The Kronos Interference I knew it was going to be exceptional. It’s a book that made me think about a myriad of different topics in a new light and it stirred up many feelings in me, especially near the end concerning Jake. This book had it all, a fast pace, mystery, intrigue, suspense, along with science, metaphysics, philosophy, religion, Nazism, Freemasonry, family ties, homelessness and the concept of choices and the consequences of our choices. Despite the diversity of the subjects, the authors expertly wove each topic into a whole story that made sense.

The style of writing was clear and easy to understand. Even though the events happening to Jake remain a big mystery until the end, I had no trouble understanding what the authors were showing us. At the end, the readers find out what has been going on and then we realize it all makes sense. The authors gave us little bits and pieces of information throughout the story and it all comes together like a completed puzzle at the end. It was brilliant, exactly the kind of story that I love to read.

All the characters had unique personalities. I think my favorite was Beeze even though he was only a secondary character. The main character, Jacob 'Jake' Newman was complex. A physicist, he starts out as a pure scientist at heart, but through the events in the story he starts to change and begins to realize that there is more to life and the Universe than just science. He goes through tremendous growth in the story.

Now, I have to talk about what Jake did by going back in time. I think what Jake did was wrong, but I can understand why he did it. Family meant everything to him and he feared being alone. Also in a way his grandfather had influenced him with his mourning over Anna so that I think Jake took on the same behavior at the loss of family. Even though logically Jake knew that going back and messing with the timeline was a bad thing, his emotions were too wrapped up in his decision and he couldn’t see past them. He minimized his actions, and that is something so many of us do with our actions and decisions. He made his decisions based on what he wanted for himself, even though he felt it was also for those he loved. Going back in time was a selfish choice based on his fears and his need. Do not read this lengthy spoiler if you don’t want to know what happens to Jake and my thoughts about it.In the end, the original Jake paid for his mistake. He spent the remainder of his life as a homeless man in the past to atone for his choice with only his memories of his wife and children to comfort him, and the hopes of doing the right thing this time around keeping him going. He ended up dying alone. The very thing he feared, being alone, ended up happening to him, although it was his choice this time. However, by living his life to set things right, Jake’s sacrifice of righting his wrong is a major factor at the end of the story and thereby ‘Future’Jake is given an unexpected reward. Before Original Jake goes on to live his life as a homeless man, he sets in motion a way for Future Jake to avoid his error. So this book leaves me with a sense of sadness because of the way Jake sacrificed his life, even though Future Jake had a better chance, and in the end so did humanity. Here is where the metaphysical part comes in. In some ways, the future Jake is a reincarnated original Jake. He is given another chance to make the right choice this time around. Only usually through reincarnation, humans don’t remember their past lives. Unexpectedly Original Jake's life memories are given to Future Jake, you’ll find out in the book how that happens. So in a way, Original Jake ends up living on, if only as a memory. But then a person has to think, same soul but different memories, is Future Jake now Original Jake without having to go through life atoning for what he did? Then again because Future Jake has the memories, he lives the pain and suffering that Original Jake lived. I say they are the same soul because it appears that Original Jake dies just before Future Jake is born and Future Jake has acute deja vu throughout his life. See how this story can get a person to explore all sorts of ideas? Finally, Original Jake also made me think about homeless people and how some may be brilliant people, and possibly on a metaphysical level, doing work of a higher calling, but we don’t know this, we only know what we see.

In the end, the time paradox between Original Jacob and Future Jacob makes me think. Is time just rewritten? Like taking an eraser to paper? Or is it like when a writer says the character takes on a life of their own, making their own choices? But then some characters need to be completely rewritten with different choices and different outcomes. Does that mean that the Universe/God/Goddess/The Great Spirit/What-have-you, in a sense is a writer, with us all being characters in a story? This book leads to all sorts of ideas and I love it when a book makes me think.

The Kronos Interference is complete in itself, but there are many unanswered questions remaining at the end of the book. We are left knowing that Jake may be called upon again in the future for his help. I definitely look forward to any stories in this Universe and hope the next story is out soon. This book deserves no less than 5 stars

A Science Fiction/Time Travel/Alternate History book with a few too many good ideas. Without giving away too much, some characters adhere to some overplayed, well-known archetypes (e.g. the coldly-beautiful seductress, the beautiful damsel in distress, etc.). The book does well with its plot for much of the book, and even serves up what might be a fitting ending were it not packed so full of foreshadowed machinations. The final part of the book, however, serves up some very heavy exposition and villain monologue as well as wrapping the book up a little too neatly while leaving the possibility open for a followup.

Still, because the book is paced rather well, it's worth a read for fans of any of the aforementioned genres--I completed it in a few hours.
