Darcy Gordon lives in fear of the past catching up with her. So when a horrible accident injures her boss, she can't shake the thought that it was meant for her. And her problems only worsen when her boss's brother, FBI agent Patrick Devereux, comes to town asking questions. If it wouldn't raise so many suspicions, she'd be packing her bags and leaving Chicago. So she does her best to stay under the radar. Patrick's fierce good looks and razor-sharp stare have her stomach in knots...and her heart racing. The passion between them leaves Darcy more confused than ever. For the first time, she wants more than the pretend life she's living now. For the first time, fear is taking a backseat to what she could have with Patrick. The Devereux Family #2
Darcy Gordon has a secret that she has been keeping for the three years she has worked as a waitress at Mama’s Place. Darcy fears that Patrick Devereux, FBI agent, will find out what her secret is when he comes to take charge of the restaurant while his brother recuperates from a nasty accident. Nathan and Darcy are definitely attracted to one another but with a time limit of six weeks neither see anything long term happening between them...perhaps not even short term. Patrick realizes shortly after his return to Chicago that there is something wrong at Mama’s Place and as he begins to investigate strange things start happening that threaten not only the restaurant but Darcy and his family, too.
This is a fast-paced well-written and very interesting story that had me invested from beginning to end. I sometimes wanted to warn the characters in the book to be careful or be smarter or not do something...you know...like you do when watching a movie and you KNOW something is going to happen and hope it won’t. I enjoyed seeing the Devereux family again and truly enjoyed reading this second book in the series.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
