This Spanish themed book is about a small lizard named Spike. Spike wants to be scary to the other animals, but the other animals only view Spike as a cute animal friend. This tiny lizard shows up his peers by becoming the "tough guy" when a ferocious monster comes walking by. All the other animals hide in fear, when Spike tried to scare the Monster, but unfortunately only made him laugh. Spike realized that he had been the only one to make the Monster smile, because usually everyone is always afraid and runs from him.

A small little monster is not as scary as he hopes he is, in fact the other animals simply think that he is cute. One day a real monster comes by the pond but the little monster is not scared of him, instead he befriends the scary monster. When the scary monster leaves the rest of the animals thank the little monster for scaring away the scary monster. ( )

Summary: Spike, a slithery, spiky, stumpy, and small monster has trouble scaring the other creatures who live on the lake due to his tiny size. When a large, scary monster, lost on his way to a party, meanders near the lake, the other creatures all run and hide. Spike attempts to scare the large monster away; however, in his attempt, the large monster thinks that Spike is smiling up at him. The large monster stops and asks Spike for directions before he turns away. The other creatures thank Spike for saving them from the large, scary monster.
