The story takes place in Toledo and involves a disgraced archeologist, freshly out of prison, who is drawn to an archeological site by an unknown person. The archeological site is an ancient synagogue where a key is found with an undecipherable script. This key could lead to a treasure, if only someone can decipher the script. While not the most intriguing of mysteries, it is enough to keep the reader reading--plus the sentences are not overly simplistic and uses life-like conversation, unlike many beginning readers.
A beginning student would need a dictionary to read it, and it may not be all that interesting a story for him. The story is fairly forgettable. (
