This is an unusual book, and I loved the mix of ideas that AJ wove into a compelling mystery. What fascinated me was the contrast between the down-to-earth detective, Quinn, and the fantastical events that happen to him, his phobia and how that contributes to the situation and the way the thieves planned their ‘campaign’. Not to forget some extraordinarily hot sex and the amazing details about Hawaii. What an irresistible combination!

Quinn definitely qualifies as a flawed character, and I loved him for that. Without telling you too much about the intricacies of the story, I can say that he has some major issues and finds himself in a situation that defies logic. Since he depends on logic to do his job, he is confused to begin with. Add the mystery of the thieves and a few other riddles and he has his work cut out for him.

JD, as an ‘ex-fling’ whom Quinn has never forgotten, adds another dimension to the story. I also loved all the secondary characters and some of the situations Quinn ends up in made me laugh.

If you like mysteries and a bit of suspense, a few paranormal elements thrown into what looks like reality, appreciate humor and hot sex and love Hawaii (or would like to learn more about it), you will love this book as much as I did. ( )

If you like mysteries and a bit of suspense, if a few paranormal elements thrown into what looks like reality is your thing, if you appreciate humor and hot sex, and if you love Hawaii (or would like to learn more about it), you will probably love this book as much as I did. It was a treat to read it the first time, and I loved returning to its world this second time around.
