Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. HTML:

My name is Amelia Gray.

I am the Graveyard Queen, a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. My father passed down four rules to keep me safe and I've broken every last one. A door has opened and evil wants me back.

In order to protect myself, I've vowed to return to those rules. But the ghost of a murdered cop needs my help to find his killer. The clues lead me to the dark side of Charleston--where witchcraft, root doctors and black magic still flourish--and back to John Devlin, a haunted police detective I should only love from afar.

Now I'm faced with a terrible choice: follow the rules or follow my heart.

The first book in the series was definitely the best. The series ended up in a direction I hadn't expected. ( )

I greatly enjoyed the first two books in this series but this book was simply not the same for me. The Prophet finds us coming home to Charleston and back to work at the original graveyard. In reality Amelia has been brought back to take part in events conspiring all around her. In the first book she feel in love with Devlin, overall for reasons unknown as he is haunted and in turn haunting Amelia. No real relationship is built around them other than the fact that she is drawn to him. This makes it hard to root for her with everything rising against them - I simply don't care about them as a couple yet.

Devlin is as ever haunted by his deceased wife and child. As Amelia struggles to deal with this haunting there is Darius Goodwine, Mariama's almost-brother, and a root doctor and black magic worker of his own who I spent the other time trying to figure out if he was helping or hindering her. The Prophet, a deceased police officer is now actively haunting Amelia as well, asking her to solve his murder so he can move on. Questions about Mariama's death rise again and again, when she died, and how and who was involved, as the Prophet himself died that very night as well. It should be riveting, mostly I figured it all out half way through and was just waiting for Amelia to slog her way toward the truth.

While in the first two books I kind of liked the fact that she was a little more passive and in some ways a little more real than all the kick butt heroines out there. This book just fell apart for me. Amelia is wishy-washy, afraid to ask questions, speaks as though she's in her forties, with basically no link to anyone her age which at times makes her seem older than she is, right before you realize just how young she actually is and how silly and naive and her love interest is a cardboard cut out. After the second book took us out of Charleston and into another interesting graveyard I thought this series would stay new and fresh. This book just feels recycled, as though all of this and more could have been hashed out in half the time and really taken care of in the first book. I will read the next Amelia book despite the fact that the idea of domesticity with Devlin sounds beyond boring and I feel like all the joy I felt for this series with book 1 faded quietly in book 2 and died away in this book. The Prophet
By: Amanda Stevens
Narrated by: Khristine Hvam
This book ha Amelia back home but what awaits her is the ghosts from book one. She also has one that is stronger. There is also someone that has special supernatural or voodoo type powers. Very suspenseful. Special secrets revealed! Non-stop creepiness! Her private and hallowed, sacred ground that kept things undead out of her house was breached by a ghost! Good creepy book about ghost and creepy people!
Great narration! ( )

I did NOT guess the killer ahead of time, so that's a bonus!

When the next book comes out next Spring I will undoubtedly read on. I enjoyed the first two books very much. This one was my favorite upon my reread of the first three. But, on the whole I love the character (Amelia), and I like the way [a:Amanda Stevens|46976|Amanda Stevens|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1361482476p2/46976.jpg] spins a yarn. Her mysteries are fun with just that right amount of creepy! ( )
