5 stars from me! I will definitely be using this in my classroom! Its a history lesson and a lesson on friendship all rolled into one! I love the way the author wrote it. The back and forth "Tom" and "John" reiteration was light and playful, but the story was accurate and very factual. I think this book tells of an important part in America's history. I also loved the fact at the end about them both passing away on the same day, July 4, on the 15th anniversary of America having independence. I'm 22 years old and never knew that! Very cool! ( )

This book is a really fun read with humorous details and simple prose, it tells the story of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson's tumultuous friendship and America's early struggles with developing a new government. Great for many ages, children can learn a number of "life lessons" about friendship and character, while also learning a simplified version of our early political parties and the challenges our new government faced at conception. I have not used this in my classroom, but I could see students at a variety of grade levels enjoying this book as a quick intro to many topics (federalists vs. republicans, founding fathers, famous feuds, letter writing, journaling, early presidents, etc...). My one-year-old even enjoyed it (bc of the voices I'm sure). Highly recommend! ( )

I loved this book. As soon as I started reading it, I thought that this book is a great book to use for a lot of classroom lessons. This book could be used to teach the students about the presidents. It would also be a great book to use when you have to teach comparing and contrasting or to use as an activity for students to make a venn diagram! This book has a lot of different facts about Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, yes they disagreed on somethings, but their friendship at the end was stronger than the feud between them! ( )

The tumultuous, on-again/off-again friendship of American Founding Fathers John Adams and Thomas Jefferson is explored in this immensely engaging work of picture-book history. Although very different in their backgrounds and temperaments, John and Tom worked together for independence, and were the best of friends. Then, during the early period of the republic, they joined different political parties and became rivals. Eventually though, when years had passed and they were old men, they became friends again, dying on the same day: July 4th, 1826...

The relationship between Adams and Jefferson is a fascinating one, and I have read quite a bit about it, in various adult biographies of the two men. This is the first children's book I have picked up about the subject, and I was quite impressed, both by the narrative, which manages to be informative, entertaining, and thought-provoking, and by the humorous artwork. I particularly appreciated the message, implicit in this true story, that political differences don't have to separate friends. There couldn't be a more timely idea! Recommended to anyone looking for picture-books about the Founding Fathers/Revolutionary War generation, or about friendship across political and intellectual lines. ( )

History meets humor as the reader learns about the rivalry between Thomas and John. This would be a great book to use as a companion novel for a unit on the American Revolution. I loved this book! I would recommend for third grade and up! Awesome!! ( )
