The poems of feautred young or amateur poets are the best parts if you are looking for interesting new works to read. A lot of the famous poems that were added in are really typical cliches. Still, they do a good job illustrating different forms and styles of poetry, so if you're looking to learn about poetry through reading a few selections, this would be a beneficial book. Poetry is cooler than ever, whether it's Maya Angelou or W. B. Yeats, Tupac Shakur or Sylvia Plath. Slams -- spoken word poetry readings -- are taking place in cities across the country.Slam contains the words of the famous, the infamous, the soon-to-be-famous, as well as the authentic and anonymous voices of real teenagers culled from Alloy.com. From John Ashbury's thoughts on the creative process to Tori Amos' take on rhyme, rhythm, and reason, this book showcases not only these artists' poems, but their inspirations.Brought to life with original artwork, photographs, and unique visual style, Slam speaks to the budding poet in every teen.
