New York Times Bestselling author Samantha Young writing as S. Young (Previously published in 2011 under the title Smokeless Fire (A Fire Spirits Novel) A week ago, Ari Johnson had two worries-how she would tell her dad she didn't want to go to college and how she'd mend her broken friendship with Charlie, who she's secretly loved since they were kids. But when she's transported from her bedroom into the chilling realm of the jinn, Ari soon has much bigger problems to deal with. Not only does she discover she's not human, but Ari's a lost princess and a pawn in a war between a terrifyingly powerful sultan and his sons, the Seven Kings of Jinn. To make matters worse, she's been assigned a brooding bodyguard, Jai Bitar, a too-sexy-for-his-own-good jinn who shadows her every step and only complicates an already complex situation. While Ari tries to make sense of her new reality, she'll have to battle ancient deadly creatures, epic family drama, and heart-wrenching romantic entanglements. And that's merely the beginning...… (altro)

Meh, she gave me magic...I dig it. Plus, jinn? Vampires/werewolves/wizards...there pretty thick out there, but jinn? Thin on the ground. That part was fun. Is she the best writer ever? No. Did the editing suck? Yes. But, it was a good brainless read...I need mindless entertainment at the minute, so she gets 3 stars from me! ( )

I could not put this book down, couldn't. Well, except for the times I wanted to throw it against the wall. It would have made 5 stars if not for these horrible points. They are noted at the bottom because they contain spoilers
The rest of the story rocked me silly. A young girl (Ari) who is left alone a lot by her over worked Dad, has a friend a ghost friend. She trusts this ghost, till one day firm hands hold her back from stepping out into the street in front of a truck. She thinks it's her ghost. These firm hands end up belonging to a beautiful Jinn(Jai) who is her guardian 24/7. This time together has them sharing and caring, growing closer. He tells her her ghost isn't a ghost but a Jinn and drawn to her because of her power ? She finds out her whole life story has been a lie and slowly grows into her new role in life. She has a whomper of a role, big time major thing for this girl. Her new life comes with changes that must be made but she still tries to hold onto her past. Conflicts, dangers and a chess match among kings. A love triangle exists, and she better make the right choice ! One of these choices, the right one is HOT. ***Snicker***
Cliffhanger ending.

*Spoilers of Negativity*
Okay lets go with the throw it against the wall parts
1) Boy you like comes over to your house for your birthday party and goes up to your Dad's bed and screws some girl and you see it. WTH ? Wait you still love and want him...ick, oh wait it gets uglier you let him curl up beside you on your bed and hold hands. WTHHHHHHH ?!?!??!
2) Drugs, this boy is drugged up, hanging out with the baddies, and you go forcing your way into the home/party... STUPID.

That's really it. I had big issues with the blind creepy endless love she carried for this dude that was just not there or passively abusive. She took it and asked for more. PA-lease ! ( )

Ooh Jinn! Interesting, I’ve never read a story about them before, besides Aladdin of course ;) . But Genie isn’t at all like the Jinn in this book. Here the Jinn are a race, with different interesting sub races. In short it’s a collective name for all kinds of creatures, each with its own special powers and they are ruled by Azazil, the Sultan, and the 7 kings. You’ll meet a few in this book and they are very fascinating! I’ll look forward to get to know the Jinn world more in the next book, this glimpse was a bit too short ;)

I kinda liked Ari. Despite everything she stayed surprisingly calm and took everything that was thrown at her in stride, besides some minor panic attacks. But how would you react if you found out that your real father is an unfeeling bastard, your mother is locked up in a vase and you seem to have magic powers? Although she should open her eyes once in a while, concerning Georges behavior, but I think what George did at the end made her eyes open as far as they could ;)

Jai… I’m still not sure how I feel about Jai. He didn’t do anything special, except being the “standard” YA hero. Okay, his youth wasn’t that great and he thinks his duty is more important than his “possible” feelings for Ari, but that’s the usual stuff you can find in a YA. His only good point was that he’s a Jinn and that if he kisses you, he knows how to find you ;) . Although I liked his short Alpha werewolf part:

There was no one thought in a moment like this. There was terror and fury and panic and vengeance. It was unrelenting and painful as it clawed and clouded his brain, reducing him to a saliva-ridden animal desperate to eviscerate the Jinn who dared to hurt what was his.

If he keeps going like this I’m definitely gonna like him ^^ I just love alpha’s ^^

What I also liked in this book was that you don’t know on which side the Jinn Kings are. Okay, the White King is gonna be the bad guy, but I’m not sure what the Red King and Azazil’s agenda’s are. It can go both ways at the moment. I’m looking forward to discover what their real intention is ^^

Overall rating 3 hearts. It was a nice story to read and I loved the glimpse we got of the Jinn world. And now comes the but: although the story was interesting, it just lacked that special something to make it more interesting for me: it didn’t keep me reading. I could put it away for a while quite easily and to have to keep on reading is a must for a great story for me ;) ( )
