It was the first orgasm Shelley Schwartz ever faked. She swore she’d never do it, but she was late for a career-saving meeting at Schwartz and Associates and her options were limited. If she’d faked it five minutes sooner, she might have earned her father’s approval, won the account, and bested her rival and the company golden boy, Ross Morgan. Calm, cool, and always collected, Ross is the perfect person to take over the ad agency her father founded–and the perfect opposite of Shelley, who’s distracted by her mother’s relentless matchmaking and her big sister’s marital meltdown. Is it any wonder her father has entrusted the agency to the blond, Porsche-driving Ross rather than his own flesh and blood? To add insult to injury, Ross–her new boss–has stuck Shelley with the client list from hell (Falafel Hut, anyone?). But if he thinks he’s going to chase Shelley Schwartz out of her family legacy, he’s got another thing coming. And if Shelley thinks she can resist Ross’s charms, she’s got some surprises in store as well.… (altro)

I actually really liked this book. It's a modern romance - none of that virginial, innocent female deflowered by the virile, sexually experienced male. No, Shelly Schwartz has plenty of experience of her own, and she knows what she likes. She's drawn to blonde, WASPy, non-Jewish men. The kind her parents would never approve of. And she's desperately trying to get her parent's approval - but only in the job department. She wants to leave her Jewish American Princess life behind...well, only a little bit.... in order to be taken seriously at work. This is spurred on by some changeups in the work place that leave Shelly suddenly on shaky footing with the realization that how people see her might really be how she is. There's a lot more to this beachy read than just an office romance. It hits that not-quite-midlife crisis shakeup with both job and family issues piling on top of the love life issues. It's the first romance I've seen with a Jewish lead in which the Jewishness factors heavily into the story. This is not your typical romance where the leads are secretly lusting after each other from the first chapter, if only that obstacle wasn't in their way. No, this book is ALL obstacle and the lead character isn't even 100% likeable. The secondary characters are well flushed out and - in the case of Shelly's sister - have their own subplots, too. Enough for another novel. ( )

You can skip this one.: I thought this looked good and the jacket sounded good so I bought it even though I haven't read any of Max's other books. I wished I had just found something else. The main character is so annoying and selfish that I couldn't like her. If you can't like the main character its sorta hard to read a book. The romance at the end sort of appears out of nowhere and you wonder how the poor guy could fall in love with this pathetic, selfish spoiled girl. Also, the parents manipulating her into falling in love with the guy by NOT mentioning that he is jewish was juvenile.

Shelley Schwartz works for her dad's agency, Schwartz and Associates. Shelley has a lot of distractions in her life - her mom, her sister, & Ross Morgan (who works at the agency). Dad entrusts the company to Ross, and Ross sticks Shelley with the worst accounts. It's the usual story of the daughter having to prove herself with some suprises along the way.

There were a couple times when I didn't understand Shelley's actions/reactions - they didn't make sense. However, I was never bored while reading this book. I liked the way Shelley's relationship with her sister developed. I also liked the unexpected twists toward the end, although it was pretty easy to guess the ending at the beginning. It was an entertaining and enjoyable read.

A cute story, worth reading if you like modern day romance novels. It had a slight twist at the end, which was nice for a romance novel. I wouldnt say this is a must read, but definitely a light read for vacation or something. ( )
