Carrot is a delightful story about a common house cat who finds that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Carrot envies the fancy white cat she sees on a yacht in the bay and fantasizes a life of wealth: "She would be asked to marry / the Earl of Kent's cat. / Nothing could be / more romantic than that." Finally Carrot realizes her "common" life has much to offer that idleness aboard a yacht could never fulfill: "Without their sweet Carrot / what would her poor family do? / And what of the mouse? / Who would tend to his flu?"… (altro)

{my thoughts} - This book is about a car named Carrot. A sweet little orange kitty with dreams of becoming rich and having things that a rich cat should have. Carrot comes upon a cat named Fluffy on yacht and begins wondering what it would be like to be her. After awhile Carrot decides it's okay just being Carrot.

This book is written as a long rhyme. It is nice but it does use some words most children wouldn't know or be able to pronounce. I know that a part of reading is running across new words but I honestly wouldn't expect my own children to know these words. The words in question are:

"She could have a party,
A kitty cotillion.
Full of rich socialites,
From a town called Vermilion."

The illustrations in this book are bright, vivid and go along nicely with the story.

{reason for reading} - This book was a free download through netgalley. ( )

Carrot is a city cat who loves her life. She shows us all the wonderful things she does and that she has (her family). One day she sees a beautiful white fluffy cat living on a yacht and she begins to imagine what her life would be like if she were that cat. A lot of wonderful things would happen to her like sitting on a throne and wearing a collar of diamonds and pearls, and drinking milk-flavored champagne. Then she begins to think about all the things she would miss in this new life and realizes that she is happy with her life the way it is. A great book for children about "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence". Once again the illustrations are bright, colourful and vibrant, certain to grab a child's attention.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Carrot the cat has a pretty good life. She lives in a house that's not too big and not too small, she gets to nap the day away, and chase mice up and down streets but also ends up helping a mouse recovering from the flu.

One day she sees this cat on a boat but not just any boat - a yacht. She starts imagining what life would be like as this beautiful and rich cat. Infinite amounts of comfort, food, and grooming. Doesn't sound too bad but really what would her family do without her and is that life really worth it?

Okay. This was my first review of a picture book in a long time. As you know I've decided to read more picture books so here's the first in what I hope to be many. So far so good.

I love cats even though they do tend to break my heart. I've raised a kitten before and you can't believe the quirks you notice on a cat that you raised. So of course I wanted to read this book and especially with all the hilarious cat photos cropping up all over the place I felt like reading a book about cats.

Maybe it's just me but the rhymes felt not as natural as I would have liked. I think it's just because it's a new author and I'm pretty new at reviewing picture books. It was a nice tale about loving where you are and who you are but it didn't make me jump for joy at how amazing it was.

The illustrations were pretty unique in that it looked like the pictures were cut out and pasted to make a 3-D effect without it actually being a pop-up book. It was a nice effect but the pictures were all right. I rather have had the colors encompass the whole page though. I don't want a patch of white on my picture book. It was still a nice read and according to the back of the book the net profits of the book will go to charitable organizations including the author's husbands disease - multiple sclerosis which is a truly great thing and I commend the author on doing that. Also she has her own publishing - VanitaBooks so she's indie! A great thing to be.

Carrot was adorable. The illustrations were bold and cute. It's definitely a great children's book for cat lovers. It really encompasses their different lifestyles and attitudes. Carrot the cat likes his house and running around the city with friends, but when he sees a new cat that sits pretty on a yacht he dreams of what it might be like to live that lifestyle. After he dreams about it for a while he realizes he loves his home and running around the city with friends. He doesn't think the new cat's lifestyle would be for him.

Colourful illustrations, clunky rhyming.

I have read and enjoyed three of Vanita Oeschlager's picture books, but the others were all based on true life stories and written in prose. Carrot is a somewhat moralistic tale, written in rhyme and I didn't rate it as highly as the previous three.

Carrot the cat is perfectly content, living in the city, spending her days chasing mice and keeping her family happy. Then she spots a glamorous looking cat who lives on an expensive yacht, and starts to imagine what life would be like for that pampered feline.
Initially she feels twangs of jealousy, but as she thinks about it more, she realises that her life is pretty good as it is and there would be disadvantages as well as perks to being a spoilt ship's cat.

The colourful illustrations are the best part of the book but unfortunately, some of the rhymes are rather awkward and clunky.
The comparison of Carrot's colour to a life jacket was also rather random, given that many children within to book's age range would never have seen a life jacket.
Disappointing in comparison to Vanita's 'true life' childrens' stories. ( )
