"Let's Be Kind," is one of my favorite books in my daughter's collection. The central message, as you can infer by the title, is the importance of kindness. A great example of this is on the first page when a boy says to a girl "I like to be kind; it's a nice thing to be. When I reach out to others...They reach back to me!" Throughout the book the author uses cute rhymes to reinforce the principles of kindness, friendship, listening, and doing the right thing. Although these are very simple concepts I don't feel they can ever be stressed enough to young children. One particular line I love is, "For God blesses kindness in so many ways, That the kindness I give out is always repaid." I like what this line represents. It says that if you do the right thing, and treat others the right way, ultimately good things will come your way. Hallinan does a tremendous job of reiterating to young readers the importance of the these good qualities. ( )
