I found it a little bit dated (it is over 20 years old) and thought that though some of the advice was helpful in developing perspective or in identifying such people for what they are instead of being in denial or blaming oneself, all I really wanted to say to the victims was "just tell them to shove it." It took me 60 years to figure this out and it is difficult to do, but in the end, one is a lot happier. This book is a quick read (152 pages)and relatively old, copy written in 1982 but re-printed ten times, the last in 1984. This book is about people in our lives that are difficult and won't change and don't think that they need to change. The are emotionally blind, deaf and they have damaged vocal chords (can't apologize and ask for forgiveness). Most of us have such people in our lives. Not only are they difficult but they cause emotional, spiritual and even physical damage to people. The Bible is full of them starting with Adam. Another premiere example is Saul in the Old Testament. The book asks not the question: do you forgive, but how. The how of it is getting starting and asking God to enable you to forgive and then to find the opportunity. But when you do forgive, do not hold to any preconceived notion or expectation of how the person to whom you are making the apology will respond. Remember that forgiveness is for giving (book by the same name written by Jason Towner). Amazing things happen when you forgive another. For one thing your own life is not tied to bitterness which erodes the soul. Essentially, the author refers to Jesus’ teaching in The Sermon on the Mount – Matthew, chapter 5: 21-24. The author refers to a book that I read some time ago called, “Caring Enough to Confront”, by David Augsburger, which gives guidance when talking to people about their faults. "Irregular People" states that the name of the game is survival – choosing God’s best physically, emotionally and spiritually. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
