From telemarketers to traffic jams to twenty-item shoppers in the ten-item line, our lives are full of interruptions. They're often aggravating, sometimes infuriating, and can make us want to tell people what we really think about them. But they also tell us something quite important about ourselves.

The prophet Jonah's life was interrupted by a clear call of God that made him mad enough and scared enough to run in the completely opposite direction. Yet it wasn't really an interruption. It was an opportunity for Jonah to be involved in something the likes of which the Old Testament world had never seen: national revival in a Gentile country.

What if Jonah had seen God's interruption for what it truly was??a divine intervention that held more adventure and possibility than any other thing he could have been doing at the time? What could have felt any better than being directly in the center of God's will?

Yet we play it that same way??always running from major pains and minor problems that just don't seem to suit us at the time. Who knows what we're missing by being so interruption avoidant? In this very personal account of opportunities lost and lessons learned, popular conference speaker and author Priscilla Shirer shows how to embrace the amazing freedom and fulfillment that comes from going with God, even when He's going against your grain.

Don’t you hate it when you have your life planned out and somehow everything gets changed? The premise of Priscilla Shirer’s book, Life Interrupted: Navigating the Unexpected, is exactly that. In it she explores how God sometimes shakes up our lives and changes our plans for the best (Jonah 1:17). Shirer states the books purpose is to help her readers to “learn how to see our life interruptions as divine interventions and begin surrendering to the authority and sovereignty of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The book is written in a way which Christians from all walks of life can thoroughly enjoy. Shirer shares her own life experience but provides helpful biblical examples like Jonah. Her progress from career woman, mother, and now bible teacher allows readers to relate to the drastic changes she had in her life. Readers who are dealing with the difficulties of change will be comforted and inspired. ( )

NCLA Review - Reviewing this book did wonders for me. It will do wonders for anybody who finds themselves with a life interrupted. The author, along with her husband, founded Going Beyond Ministries and also lectures and writes. Does she ever write! In Life Interrupted, she retells the story of Jonah, applying his experiences and lessons learned to whatever life interruption we may be facing. She explains that such interruptions are not interruptions at all, but interventions from God, whereby we are led down paths we hadn’t thought of, for a purpose we may not understand. Such paths lead us upward spiritually and reveal gifts we didn’t know we had, bringing us to yield with joy to God’s will for us. The book is rich with delightful stories, and inspiration lurks in every one. Rating: 4+ —EB ( )
