This series of four hi-low titles may be short on substantive information, but it has plenty of reluctant reader appeal with catchy photographs and facts that are just plain weird. Bog-snorkeling, chess-boxing, extreme ironing... students won't walk away knowing much more about the particular sport (or animal, or weather phenomenon, or scientific tidbit, depending on which of the four titles they've picked up) than they did before they opened the book, but there's a good chance that their curiosity will be piqued enough that they want to explore further. A couple of the photographs in Strange But True Science have the yuck factor, and poop is probably mentioned a little gratuitously in the Sports title, but if you're looking for books that draw in reluctant readers, these four titles will fit the bill.
