My husband and I both agreed it would make a great movie! Irene Magers' writing style keeps you engrossed in the book and even if it's late at night you just can't put the book down until you are done! This is part of a trilogy but it's great as a stand alone book since I didn't read the first book in the series. I was not lost with this book which is a great thing. Although this is the second book in a trilogy, I read it without having read the first book. This story follows Max and Fritz, two brothers living between World War I and World War II. Although I enjoyed the story, I did get the feeling that this book was just a set-up for the third book. I found the brothers a bit flat and even unrealistic at times. Their romantic interests also seemed a bit stereotypical. Further, the author kept jumping from one character to the other, with great lengths of time between. Despite all of that, I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to others. Questa recensione è stata scritta per gli Omaggi dei Membri di LibraryThing . Night Crossing to Athens is an interesting book about the lives of a family in Germany. The characters are well developed and the storyline is believable. Through the first half of the book, I could barely put it down, but once the story jumped from focusing on Cassandra and Max onto other characters, I began to lose a little interest. It seems the story of Cassandra and Max was lost abruptly, although they remained a part of the story. I do have to say that it was refreshing to read a book with fewer grammatical/editing errors than what I have been reading through the member giveaways. Irene Magers puts words to her ideas in a beautiful way. All in all, this book was entertaining and interesting, but felt lacking in some ways for me, personally. Just as I warmed up to the characters I was becoming involved with, it moved on to focus on other characters. But as stated, Magers does a great job of conveying the story in an understandable way and an eloquent way. This was very refreshing! The character development is great, and Irene Magers obviously has a knack for storytelling! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone! It was an easy read, and was a nice break from the intense books that I have been reading. I think that the story-lines jumped around a little bit, and I would have liked to see something come to a climax, but overall it was a nice weekend read. I pulled for Cassandra to become a more affectionate and attentive mother. And the baroness Dorrit reminded me so much of my own grandmother. So I did feel an emotional attachment with the story and its characters. Would love to find out what happens next, so I will look forward to reading the final installment of the trilogy. That means I will have to backtrack and read the first as well, but I am sure I will enjoy it. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
