The Whitby Public Library serves the Town of Whitby and surrounding area. Located 50 km (30 miles) east of Toronto, Whitby has a population of approximately 115,000. Incorporated in 1855 and designated the administrative centre of Durham Region, our town has a long and interesting history. In recent years, Whitby has experienced exponential growth, more than doubling our population since the 1980s.

The Whitby Public Library operates from a state-of-the-art Central Library in downtown Whitby. We also have two neighbourhood branches located in the Rossland Rd. / Garden St. area and in Brooklin. A new branch and community centre is under construction in Brooklin and is scheduled to open in late 2010.

Check out our many services! Books, e-resources, DVDs, video games, internet access (including WiFi), materials in French and other languages, local history, the Whitby Archives, programs for adults and kids and much, much more!

All Durham Residents can get a free library card with proof of address.
