Among its 25,000 books in 100+ categories is a sizeable collection of antiquarian and fine books, ranging from prized first editions and collections to rare Hawaiian, European and Asian texts.

Located on the very northern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii, Kohala Book Shop was founded in 1998 with the purchase of the complete inventory of famed Tusitala Bookstore of Oahu. For more than 25 years Tusitala (Samoan for Robert Louis Stevenson's nickname, "Teller of Tales") was the pre-eminent used book store in Hawaii.

ADDED on February 15, 2009 by carport. I visited Kohala Book Shop today. The windows were papered, but I could see filled book shelves above the paper. A sign on the door said "Permanently Closed." Their website states that they are moving to an on-line mode only (that means no events), so I checked "defunct" status.
