Right now I'm listening to I AM NUMBER FOUR by Pittacus Lore. It is about aliens living among us because they had to flee from their home planet because their enemies obliterated it and almost wiped out their race. 9 children were sent here, each with their own guardian. They split up in order to remain hidden. A special charm protects them and they can only be killed in their order of their number. "John" is Number Four and he just found out Number Three was killed. John knows he is next so he and his guardian move, yet again, hoping to stay hidden.
So far I really like it.

I am currently reading Anna Karenina by Tolstoy. It is set in Russia and deals with the struggles of a couple who are in love and living together, yet the woman is married to another. If she divorces her husband she will lose all rights to her son, but if she goes back to him she will lose the daughter she just had with her lover. Society has deserted her and all her old friends will no longer have anything to do with her.
It was very hard to get started with this book because of the way he refers to the characters in the story. One time he will use a proper first and last name and the next time a nickname is used. If you haven't read this yet and decide to, make a list of everyone to help keep it all straight. It has turned into a very good story, but it took a while to get to that point.

I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and I really enjoyed it. It was just a quick, light read. I wanted to read something light and easy before school started back up and everything got hectic. It take place in England and Guernsey right after World War II and the story is told through letters. Next, I'm going to read Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. Well, that all my 70 books this semester. Ha. :)

I am currently slowly reading "The Fellowship of the Ring" by J.R.R. Tolkien. This is about a hobbit or small creature with hairy feet named Frodo Baggins. The book follows his adventures as he inherits a magic ring that is very powerful. He has to leave his home with his friends and get the ring away from those that would misuse it's power
I just finished "A Lineage of Grace" by Francine Rivers. This book follows five women who are found in the lineage of Christ Jesus. It uses the Biblical account of these women and makes a story about how these women might have thought, acted, and have been treated by their family and friends. It is amazing that Christ came through women that were considers immoral to those around him.

I put away all of my books and have started in on reading for this class. I am currently reading Hate List by Jennifer Brown. I just started last night so I am only on chapter 3. I wrote it down while watching your introduction. It sounded very interesting to me. I am excited to see what happens.

I just finished Life, After by Sarah Darer Littman and started the Immortals Series by Alyson Noel (Evermore, Blue Moon and Shadowland).

weeksie50 HATE LIST is one of my favorite books. I thought it was so powerful. Are you taking Young Adult lit too because it definitely isn't a Children's Book.
Jdonldsn I read PURGE by Sarah Darer Littman. I really liked it. I've read the first two in the Immortal series and thought they were pretty good.

I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I have never wanted to read it before because for some reason it bothers me when a book is being read en masse. I'm only about a third of the way through it.
I'm taking both Adv. Children's Lit. and YA lit. so I'm trying to get through my lists!

I am reading The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey. It is a different take on fairy tales and why the events happen as they "always" do in them.

I'm reading Ook and Gluk by Dav Pilkey. I needed to start something short so I can be ready to start Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins when it comes out tomorrow.

What do you think about Harry Potter? I have tried to read it 3 times and just can't get into it. I'm not a huge fantasy person, but I loved the Twilight series. Some people said maybe I should try to watch the movies first. I don't know. Maybe it just isn't for me.

btivis I am not really into fantasy either but I enjoyed the Harry Potter series. I started out reading them to my nephew. He really wanted to read them but he has a hard time comprehending unless things are being read to him. After the 3rd book he started reading them on his own but I finished out the series. I like them because they are very imaginitive and action packed.
I loved the Twilight books too. Have you read Vampire University? I like those as well.

I recently finished Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko. It provided a glimpse, through children’s' eyes, into living close to the worst criminals and life on Alcatraz Island in 1935. It also provided the struggles of a family with an Autistic child at a time when very little was known about Autism. I purchased the book over a year ago at an ECU Bookstore $.99 sale and it just happened to be on a list of approved books for a summer course. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I loved that book! One of my friends kids had me read Al Capone Does My Shirts and it was wonderful. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder!

Who is this too?
23kperry
chelle_ra74 What do you mean, who is this to? This is just a discussion thread where you can talk about what you are reading. This way you might find something to put on your reading list.

For me, reading Al Capone Does My Shirts from the perspective of the Autistic child gave it a differing spin than I would have had if I had just read the book. Focusing on a secondary character was a new concept for me and the result was delightful.
