My all time favorite exhibit was of Dale Chihuily glass works put on by the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1993. I've since seen exhibits of Chihuily's work in Chicago and here in Indianapolis, and the PBS overview of some his worldwide exhibits, but none match the comprehensiveness of the Detroit show. Besides the assorted bowl sets, the glass ceiling, and a variety of other works, there was a theater background which consisted of a forest of narrow roomhigh glass panels. Absolutely breathtaking.

Of course, the Garden of Glass at the Garfield Conservatory in Chicago in 2002 was also a superb exhibit. The huge glass lillies and lilly pads floating on the pond was spectacularly beautiful.

If you ever get anywhere near Seattle, you may want to schedule a visit to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. In addition to the permanent collection, MOG is linked to other museums in the immediate area by the 500 foot Chihuly Bridge of Glass.

Wow! Thanx for the links--I envy your relative proximity to Tacoma. If I make it to Washington, I'll definitely visit that museum.

When I've seen Chihuily I've always wondered if he lost his eye in some glass blowing catastrophe.
