I'll be reading some today and tomorrow. I have family coming in later tomorrow to help me celebrate my birthday on Sunday. I probably won't get much reading in after they arrive, although I'll at least fit in my two stories a day from The Stories of John Cheever so that I can finish it by the end of the month.

I like the Lincoln Lawyer series. I am trying to get caught up with the series myself. But I have so many series to read! This is just one more.

I will be participating this weekend but have lots of activities to go to. I am celebrating my 50 year High school graduation and our class is holding its reunion this weekend. I also have ceremonies at cemeteries to attend and my Aunt's 86 birthday party to go to. It will be a big weekend but there is always room for reading.

Wow - summer in full swing suddenly, and it looks like for everyone above it is too! Lots to do, and outdoor time is enjoyable. Finding that cool spot in the shade to read can be tricky but I'm in for this weekend. Attending an Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts) ceremony so I'll use the time to move through some audiobooks. Still working on the French history but may fit in another read as well, just for the novelty!

Friday start-up
Books read from: Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. Moment of War by Laurie Lee. I am listening to Kill Artist by Daniel Silva and the Love Songs of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce.

Books finished: Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. Kill Artist by Daniel Silva

Book Thoughts: Long road trips are great for listening to recorded books and I take full advantage of that. I drove back to Kansas to spend a week and took a big selection of recorded books with me. I listened to a 14 hour recorded version of Little Thieves by Margaret Owen and it was a great occupier of my time. I also listened to Kill Artist by Daniel Silva. The first book was the first in a series of YA dystopian novels and the latter is the first book in a spy thriller, the Gabriel Allon series. Both were great ways to pass the miles.

Non-Book activities: I am the head of the organizing committee for my 50 year high school class reunion and I won't be spending much time here on LT as a result, but I do hope to finish reading one long book and one short one.

Monday report
Books read from: Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. Moment of War by Laurie Lee. I started reading Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage: The Real Story Behind the Wild West's Greatest Tale by Stephen J. May. I am listening to the Love Songs of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce.

Books finished: Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. Kill Artist by Daniel Silva. Moment of War by Laurie Lee.

Book Thoughts: I had a very busy weekend but I did manage to get some reading done. I finished A Moment of War by Laurie Lee and, like the critics, I found this book to be the weakest of his four memoirs. It showed the same descriptive powers that is common to all of his autobiography/memoirs but it simply didn't have the depth that I expected. For instance, he did not every explain why he felt compelled to go to Spain and join the Republican Army. I got no sense of him as a person other than he left a girl in England who he thought was trying to push him into a more serious relationship than he wanted. But that was only inferred and never explained. I am glad that I read this series and have no regrets about any of the books. In fact, I was very impressed with Lee as an author.

I discovered that Sirius Radio is giving fee listening time this weekend and somehow the music on their Spa channel suited my mood so I didn't listen to my recorded book as much over the weekend as I would have.

Non-Book activities: I spent a great deal of time being bossed around by a person on our Class reunion planning committee who kept telling us that she didn't want to be "in charge" and then proceeded to do exactly that. I did have a great time and enjoyed very much the time I spent with my classmates.

My weekend summary: rather unimpressive hour count, and most of it done in the car, but at least I enjoyed that time! I just miss having the time to hold an actual book ... hopefully during the evenings this week!

Books read from: Madame Fourcade’s Secret War, Lynne Olson (Libby audiobook); A History of France, John Julius Norwich (Audible).

Time reading:
Fri: .5
Sat: 3.5
Sun: 0
Mon: 5

Snacks: yogurt and fruit
Thoughts: Nothing profound. Got to spend a little time with my brother and his family, and my brother is hilarious. Wish we lived closer to one another.
Non-book activities: pretty much the whole weekend was filled -- errands; the garden was dry enough to get a bunch of tasks done and things planted; and I was able to travel to attend my nephew's Eagle Scout ceremony (a big deal, for those unfamiliar with Scouting)

Memorial Weekend wrapup
Books read from: Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage: The Real Story Behind the Wild West's Greatest Tale by Stephen J. May. Beige Man by Helen Tursten. I am listening to the Love Songs of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce.

Books finished: Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. Kill Artist by Daniel Silva. Moment of War by Laurie Lee.

Book Thoughts: I didn't finish another book, but I read 60 pages in Book of Form and Emptiness and hope to finish it before I leave for Alabama. I had an unexpected 2 hours yesterday afternoon to read and got 35 pages of the book about Zane Grey and The Riders of the Purple Sage. This book is going to prove to be very interesting.

Non-Book activities: I got started on getting the house in order. I remade the bed and washed sheets so the extra room is ready for other houseguests - should any appear. I hope to make it to pick strawberries this afternoon, but I am clearly in recovery mode.
