Sadly, the only dead composer from whom you could commission works will no longer be fulfilling requests.
Peter Schickele died on January 16, 2024, aged 88.
At least we still have his immortal works such as, 'The Unbegun Symphony', 'Oedipus Tex' and 'The Abduction of Figaro'.
Award yourself a prize if you can name any of Peter Schickele's many serious compositions.

I seem to recall that he wrote the music for the movie "Silent Running." Other things as well, but I can't recall them at the moment.
I saw him at Town Hall in NYC back in 1974, performing the newly discovered piece: Hansel and Gretel and Ted and Alice, opera in one unnatural act.
The man was both a genius and insane.

Been a while since I listened to them, but I remember liking his bassoon concerto and his string quartets.

Oh, no... so many great memories listening to him on the radio.

We saw him in Boston's Symphony Hall several times. I remember one in particular when he made his entrance sliding down a rope from the first balcony.

That's exactly what he did at Town Hall!

>8 librorumamans: I've glanced through it & it's so much fun. There's even a family tree! I think I'm going to read a little each night to brighten the end of the day.
