No pressure to read and discuss a particular book.
You just get together, have a drink, socialize for a bit, and then everyone settles down for a quiet reading session. Huh.

>1 2wonderY: I’d love that! It would be a real encouragement to read.

As opposed to the standard book club where you just get together, have a drink, socialize for a bit, and then everyone settles down to explain why they haven't read the book yet...

In either case, if you stayed home you'd have more time for reading.

There's a local comic shop that has occasional "Introvert Reading Nights" where people come to the shop, sit in comfy chairs and read quietly. I've never gone, because I'm of MarthaJeanne's opinion (more time to read if I stay home), but I gather they have a few regulars.

My home isn't all that conducive to sustained reading, with frequent interruptions and nowhere comfortable and quiet to read other than my bed, where I try not to read too much to avoid affecting my sleep. I just checked and there's a new chapter in a neighboring town; I might go check it out.

I’m going to suggest it at my local library. They happen to have comfortable seating around a working fireplace.

I love this idea!

I started going to these locally, before losing touch in the pandemic, I loved the experience. There's a website with details of local chapters: https://silentbook.club/
