They shouldn't be combined. The disambiguation notice says on https://www.librarything.com/work/12801407 says "This is a 1-volume abridged version" and the work-to-work relationships also show that one is an abridgement of the other.
https://www.librarything.com/work/27593 is the three volume set, whether it's three separate volumes in a set or all three published in one volume doesn't matter.
