This LEC edition of The Swiss Family Robinson (1963) was such a pleasant surprise to me. At $40 to $75, it seems a bargain (like most LECs!).
The book is quarter bound in buckram with boards covered with grasscloth made from the inner bark of honeysuckle stems! "These are hand-picked, hand-washed, hand-rubbed, sun-dried, and hand-woven (with cotton yarn for the warp); the web is then brought to a modern plant for dyeing and backing" (ML #350). The binding calls to mind other inventive and evocative natural materials used by the LEC in this era, such as the Ugandan bark cloth for The Story of an African Farm (1961).
The novel is profusely illustrated by David Gentleman with 31 full page engravings, 30+ smaller engravings, and headings for each chapter. For the reader, that means a full page illustration roughly every 15 pages. The ML describes them as "deliciously quaint and marvellously detailed". The paper is pleasingly thick, and the printing by W.S. Cowell, Ipswich, looks good, very consistent throughout.
The book was designed by Will Carter of The Rampant Lions Press, so perhaps no surprise that it's such a well thought out production.

This looks like a wonderful edition and your photos are excellent. Thank you for sharing! My only complaint is that now I feel obliged to look for a copy for myself! =)

Ah, so this is what it feels like to be an enabler! (I'm usually on the other side of the equation) :)
