In 2015 Folio Soc emailed this:
"Helliconia, Brian Aldiss
We are also considering a three-volume set of this science-fiction epic by one of the great pioneers of the genre. It will be bound in leather and we are in discussion with Alan Lee, a leading illustrator in the fantasy genre and one of the lead concept artists on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy with regards to the illustrations. The edition would be complemented by specially composed music by Steve Buick, available on CD or download. 100 copies of the book will be signed by the author.
Suggested price: £495"
Now, five years later, a question about this was recently put to Folio customer services:
''Is a FS edition of this work still possibly on the cards?....It would surely be a FS bestseller, especially if illustrated by an artist of the calibre of Alan Lee.''
The reply:
''can't give too much away at this stage, but Helliconia is still very much in our thoughts. Better yet if it were illustrated by Alan Lee!''

The title of this thread got my hopes up lol. A Helliconia set would be a day one purchase for me.

Wow - thanks for the update. What an amazing edition it would be if it came to pass. And nice to read the 'can't give too much away' comment. Sounds promising.

Well, it won't be happening the way originally envisaged with author-signed copies, since he passed away in 2017. Maybe that makes a LE less likely? Mind you, signed by Alan Lee might up the kudos to limited edition level. Personally, I'd love to see a Folio edition of Helliconia but, however much it'd hurt to do so, I'd have to pass if it was a LE going for c.500 quid.
