LCpl Robert Thomson (S/42066) maakte deel uit van het 8e Bataljon van The Black Watch en nam deel aan de strijd in Vlaanderen in de laatste maanden van de Eerste Wereldoorlog. De brigade waarvan zijn bataljon deel uitmaakte vocht vanaf augustus 1918 samen met het Belgische Leger in Rakingem (F), Wormhout (F), Ledringhem (F), Frezenberg (B), Passendale (B), Broodseinde (B), Moorslede (B), Rollegem-Kapelle (Ledegem) (B), Harelbeke (B) en Strooiboomhoek (B).
We weten dat LCpl Thomson op 7 oktober 1918 op 19-jarige leeftijd overleden is aan zijn verwondingen. Hij werd ver achter de frontlijn begraven in Sint-Niklaas (B). In welke veldslag werd hij gewond ? Was hij een krijgsgevangene ? Met welke Belgische eenheid vocht zijn Brigade op dat ogenblik ?
Ik zou alle hulp over een boek of andere bronnen die meer licht kunnen werpen op de omstandigheden van zijn dood en de reden waarom hij zo ver achter de frontlijn werd begraven, zeer waarderen.
LCpl Robert Thomson (S/42066) was a soldier in the 8th Battalion, The Black Watch, and fought in Flanders in the closing stages of World War I. The Brigade, of which the Battalion was part, was fighting in conjunction with the Belgian Army, serving from August 1918 in Racquinghem (F), Wormhoudt (F), Ledringhem (F), Frezenberg Ridge (B), Passchendaele Ridge (B), Broodsende Ridge (B), Moorslede (B), Rolleghemcapelle (B), Harelbeke (B) and Strooiboomhoek (B).
We know LCpl Thomson died of wounds on Oct. 7th, 1918, aged 19. He was buried far from the frontline in Sint-Niklaas (B).
In which action was his battalion engaged when he was wounded ? Was he made a P.O.W. ? What was the name of the Belgian Army unit his Brigade was fighting with ?
Any help in finding books or other sources that can shed light on the circumstances of his death and the reason why he was buried so far from the frontline would be very much appreciated.
