Ryszard Kapuscinski's I Wrote Stone

A small press in Canada has just brought out a selection of Ryszard Kapuscinski's poetry, in a book titled I Wrote Stone. It is the only available edition of Kapuscinski's poetry in english, and offers a complimentary view of the writer. Kapuscinski said that "he cannot imagine life without poetry. Without my contemplation of boundaries, of mystery. And true poetry is able to touch it, brush against it, to skim it with the fin of language..."

His verse is interesting, and as one would expect, thoughtful, philosophical, aphoristic and engaged politically, morally and viscerally with the world around him. It's something all fans of Kapuscinski should read, a book that meant a lot to him, and that he worked very hard to see published before his death. It's a shame, alas, that he did not quite make it.
