Do you think something else happened on the beach the day of the bonfire that we are unaware of yet? If so, any thoughts what?

I have no idea but it is a good possibility.

I don't know but it does seem odd that the group called Christopher "hangman". So maybe Christopher had done something earlier that the group saw.

Yes, I'd guess something else occurred after Magnie set off home with Christopher, because Magnie had looked back and saw a shadow, "A shape that he recognised, staring after him." (Ch. 2).
I'm also sure Helena said 'they'd' brought Christopher home (they who?), when only Magnie had set off with the boy.

>4 Sergeirocks: I wondered what that shadow comment was about. Sounds important to the story.

I definitely feel something else happened.

I also wondered about the "they" that brought Christopher home. Why didn't Jimmy ask Christopher who brought him home? I thought the "hangman' taunts were strange and I saw no reason for them to being calling Christopher "hangman".

I think something happened. I don't think the shadow was Emma. It seems like Christopher must know.
